Those who wish to improve their Assertiveness skills at work. You may be a team member, a team leader or a manager who needs to develop your authority in conflicting situations and with varying priorities.

What practical benefits will I gain from attending this workshop?

You will learn a range of practical techniques that will enable you to express your opinion confidently and assertively, to stand your ground in the face of resistance or aggression and to improve your prospects of achieving your objectives, whilst engaged in a range of conversations with either internal and external customers.

Workshop Contents:

Tutor and learner introductions

  • Workshop style, objectives, Learning Logs
  • The difference between Assertive, Non -Assertive and Submissive Behaviour
  • Recognising the key behaviours
  • Achieving your individual rights
  • Understanding the advantages of assertive behaviour
  • Understand and use 10 practical tools and techniques for being more Assertive
  • Using empathy and rapport to combat aggression
  • Coping with Put Downs and Criticism, Dealing with Feelings, The XYZ Formula, Handling Aggression, Resolving Conflict, Getting to ‘No’,  Disarming Anger
  • A range of exercises, case studies and skills practise to embed learning and improve confidence
  • Recognising your strengths and areas for improvement
  • Workshop review and evaluation

Pre-workshop activity: Delegates should attend prepared to answer the question – “What stops you being more assertive?”

Duration:        One day. (09:15 – 16:45).
